Maine winter makes way for spring, spring makes way for mud season, and mud season makes way for Margarita season. Well we do declare! Margaritas in Maine – it’s got a nice ring to it and sounds like a funky comedic Tennessee Williams play starring Antonio Banderas and Madawaska hotty Ashley Hebert.
Listen to the Margarita filled madness!
So… as long as you’re over 21, drink responsibly, and don’t have allergies to the Felis silvestris catus, this Mexican restaurant will get you as jumpy as a cat on a hot tin roof. This joint makes it hard for you to keep your paws off – if you’re on a quest for south of the border sensations served in Maine.
In honor of the melting snow and the soon-to-be spring sunshine, we ordered a Frozen Mudslide and a Blue Hawaiiarita. Not to sound too garish, the latter libation sounds like a naughty movie starring Elvis Parsley. Either way you serve it, you can rest assured the vast menu of multicolored eatables at Margaritas will leave Taco Bell green with Piñata envy. So let’s not beat a dead donkey and move on.
Happy Hour is enjoyed from 4-6pm. Just make sure you have a duley designated driver. We always do. Other offers include free food samples, beer specials, and pitchers of their namesakes’ original concoctions: Las Margaritas!
Starting with starters: Handmade Fresh Guacamole with avocados, hand-smashed daily to enjoy with fresh tortilla chips, which crunched like the Situation working his abs. Nachos Cowabunga: A Simpsonesque choice of grilled vegetables, chicken, beef, or chorizo hovering over refritos with melted cheese and fresh veggies. Topped with fresh guacamole and sour cream for less than nine bucks, it’s Cowabunga indeed!
If you don't want to have a cow man, chicken, or chorizo as Bart would say… then ask WWHD? What would Homer do? On his Odyssey of gastronomic fulfillment, he’d devour the shrimp variety in original corn salsa; and as it’s served with chipotle sour cream and fresh guacamole for under ten bucks, even Bumble Bee Man would say Adios Mio and buzz on over! For a less animated app', you could choke your chicken. Chipotle Chicken Wings that is! Tossed with a spicy chipotle barbeque seasoning and lightly fried. Served with home-made blue cheese dressing that had us moaning “yum” in Spanish (which is also “yum” in English, but with a little more accent). We thought the blue cheese dressing was deliciously prepared, and had been wonderfully blended to seduce our taste buds.
They offer many other great appetizers too. From Roasted Vegetable Zarape to Queso Fundido, which is a hot skillet of melted cheese mixed with fresh salsa casera, tomatillo sauce and chipotle seasoning. For good cluck, sample the Chicken Fajita Salad. It’s all pretty festive and fun! Margaritas also boast Hand-crafted Salad Dressings to splash on your spinach or toss your salads in other ways.
Fajitas: a multitude of various meats and poultry from which to choose: These are served on a bed of seasoned onions and peppers and come with Mexican rice and choice of beans. The “extras” include fresh guacamole, sour cream, tomatoes, lettuce, cheese, salsa casera, and of course, the warmed tortillas for rolling. We bit in to a Chipotle BB-Q Steak Fajita like the entire cast of Vampires in From Dusk ‘Til Dawn. They also offer Frontera Seared Steak: A hot and juicy sirloin strip rubbed in a special blend of peppery spices and seared on a cast-iron skillet which is hotter than Salma Hiyak in a bikini. It’s pretty good value for the money. And, this place spreads the chow and the change.
Let it be known Margaritas is not one to siesta on its laureolas as they say in Mexico - or rest on their laurels as they say everywhere else. They expand the social universe with cool themes and events. For instance, enjoy a full moon every month. No “buts” about it. And with their lunar inspired get-together, there’s no need to bare your “ass” a.k.a. burro for this Full Moon.
The FULL MOON MADNESS events: take place on the night of the full moon, and Margaritas gives a portion of proceeds to local charities. This place enjoys being part of the local community and giving back too. They work hard to give their best. That’s why they open at 4PM. The chefs and staff prepare their meals homemade, and from scratch. They have a lot from which to choose. There’s a variety of intoxicating drinks, good food, and great ambiance.
Margaritas stays true to its roots. So plant yourself at one of their authentic Mexican furnishings, order a drink and a meal, and you too may shout: Viva Margaritas!
