Mardi Gras 2012.
This night only comes once a year to those who enjoy the party scene of drinking until they lose their inhibitions and regret it the next morning. The memories, or should I say what could be salvaged through pictures from the previous night be a reminder of what kind of night it really was. This is my review of the bars I visited for Mardi Gras.
First stop: Coconuts located on Piedras. I had a great time there. Almost was a little sad having to leave to go to the next venue. My experience there was great. Having Bridget and Janessa taking care of the packed bar without missing a beat. I will give this bar a 5 star. (1 star being terrible and 5 star being awesome).
Second stop: Pop's Cantina located on N. Mesa. I didn't mind paying a $5 entrance fee, but to be honest this place was so lame. Don't get me wrong the bar was crammed with people. It was to the point of being so uncomfortable that I straight up left after meeting the manager...not happy about the way he blew me off when I introduced myself. Sorry sir didn't realize I was interrupting your shot drinking time... I will probably not return to this bar unless absolutely necessary. I must admit the only plus about this bar was Rosa and Roy. These two bartenders went out of there way to make sure I was helped. Those two are the types of bartenders that keep the people coming back. Can't say much for the rest of the staff. I had to yell to get the attention of a bartender. Keep in mind I was one of two people standing in front of the bar with 4 staff standing around chatting before noticing they had any customers. (2 star).
Third stop: Tortugas. I dislike this bar greatly. The only positive thing about this place is one bartender, Vince. He is super cool and takes care of people the way a great bartender should. Other than that you should watch your bill for being taken advantage of. You'll get charged more than you drink if you don't watch it. Not cool. (2 star).
Fourth stop: Robadoo's on country club. I haven't had this bad of service their in a while. With two bartenders behind a not of busy bar, I was disappointed by the lack of service. I stood by the bar where I was clearly seen and was straight out ignored. Unless you're buddy-buddy with the staff you can forget good service. (1 star).
Fifth and final stop: Brew located on N. Mesa near Doniphan. I don't know how long it’s been since I've been there but I can always be sure that I will be served right away and treated well. Every staff member has been so helpful no matter what. (5 star).
