A blast from the past review, with some sad updates. My group used to play at Maplecrest on a monthly basis. The group died out, like many groups do, and from the information I have gathered, so has Maplecrest. The owner passed a couple years ago, and the course is being run by absentee ownership and a manager/superintendent/pro/green mower/bartender/janitor…. You get the point, they have cut the budget and it shows. Yep and no more flowers around the tees.
The course used to be one of the better in the areas, good greens and fairways, not so much anymore, a herd of sheep could do a better job, all because the absentee owner does not want to budget the funds to keep the course in condition. Which of course results in less play, so less funds, and so on.
Rating 1/2 Green Speed Dead Slow
Maplecrest has the toughest set of par 3’s around, the two on the front measure 220 and 240 from the back, and those on the back are 180 and 165. The par 4’s for the most part are short but tight and the par 5’s are good risk reward short holes. Miss the fairways, that is if you can find them, and the trees will kill you.
A basic clubhouse, snack bar, and bar. There was a range, but I am not sure it is in use.
Save your money, not worth the effort, at least until the ownership realizes the gem they once had, or sells to a golf person with a vision.
