Former cop Nick Cassidy, (Sam Worthington), got popped for stealing a $40M diamond. He now sets in prison, where he will be for the next 25 years. Nick claims to be innocent, like everyone else in prison does. Nick's former partner, Mike (Anthony Mackie), visits him in prison where he looks upon Nick with misery.
The story immediately takes on a conspiratorial feel. The viewer suspects everyone at one time or another. The characters and story lines are intricate. It's a 'who done it to whom' movie full of change ups and 'ahha' moments.
What is safe to say is that most of the cast is great. Elizabeth Banks plays police negotiator Lydia Mercer, who has had bad luck of late with her negotiations. Jamie Bell is Cassidy's brother (Joey), the boys don't get along. Edward Burns is a cop who is helping Lydia with her negotiations but can't help but poke fun at her misery. William Sadler, who is always wonderful is…wonderful. Genesis Rodriquez plays Angie, a beauty and Joey's girlfriend.
Now, for the few draw backs. Kyra Sedgwick plays a reporter named Suzie Morales. It seems like the part was written just to get her face on the screen and her name in the credits. Her character, although at first promising, goes no where and eventually just disappears. However, she looks great in the trailers for the film.
Ed Harris isn't on his best game here, he looks ill and very thin.
No one in this film is who they are suppose to be. Everyone has their own subplot which intercept every once in a while.
It's a good film, with exciting car chases and enough high ledge shots to do you a lifetime.
