Man Man: 'Life Fantastic' (2011)

"Life Fantastic" by Man Man is a gritty and tough Indie Rock album that is a tad more refined than their previous releases.

Songs like "Spooky Jookie" are probably the most digestible of the album- straight forward rock with a touch extra kick- whereas tracks like "Dark Arts" dip more into the crazy ramshackle style that they've come to be associated with on stage.

As an interesting mood transition, the next track after "Dark Arts" (entitled: 'Haute Tropic') unfolds a very strange and quirky kind of... south of the border sounding waltz. The instrumentation's slight sinister quality is embellished upon with dark and twisted lyrics- all of which make for one distinct and enjoyable song.

Overall the album seems to have a singular theme that runs through most songs- that being the struggle to live well enough while having bad ingrained in your soul. The dark nature of the themes mixed with high production (often times featuring incredibly unique backup vocals and odd instrumentation) and spirited performance stand this album out as a must listen.
