Maltz Jupiter's Cabaret is Unparalleled With Broadway's Kate Shindle

Jupiter, FL- Willkommen, bienvenue, welcome!  Life is a Cabaret at Maltz Jupiter Theatre.   A Theatre Chat Top Pick!  Maltz Jupiter Theatre is also in the TOP TEN Regional Theatres in the USA.  Not since the Broadway's production of Tony Award®-winning Cabaret has their been a stronger production of Cabaret

Life is not a Cabaret until you have heard Broadway star Kate Shindle (Sally Bowles) sing it!  Kate Shindle recently starred as The Mad Hatter in Broadway's Wonderland.  Kate's is a past Miss America and that crown won't show in this truly grity part.  For tickets, call (561) 575-2223 or visit www.jupitertheatre.org.

The production is the revival staging seen on Broadway at Club 54 just a few years back and the use of cast members playing instruments is engenius.  Cabaret comes to life before the curtain come up as we see dancers streching and musicians flurting.  The raunchy life of a real Cabaret is captured in the Nazi war torn times and Angie Radosh (Fraulein Schneider) is brilliant as the boarding house keeper who takes in Bruce Linser (Clifford Bradshaw) an American novelist, and what an amazing choice for character study than at the Cabaret.

Bruce Linser (Clifford Bradshaw) falls in love with Cabaret singer Kate Shindle (Sally Bowels) their voices are beautiful, stunning and equally effective.  The choreography is raunchy and steaming hot, appropriate for the times of surviving artists that would do anything for their love of working in a Cabaret, depicting (1919-1933) when rampant inflation and poverty defined the country as a carefree, anything goes and excessive world that led to Hitler’s rise.

Christopher Sloan (Emcee) is titillating as he welcomes the audience to the Cabaret and the Kit Kat Klub.  Sloan is the finest Emcee's since Broadway's  Joel Grey.   Once again Maltz Jupiter Theatre's  production values soar with Carbonell Award winning Sound Designer (Marty Mets) blending a full 15 piece band with strings and voices.  The direction from Director BT McNicholl is impeccable down to the request of no reverb in the mic's as a Cabaret at that time would not have the technologies or luxury of reverb.  This effect gives us the true raw sound of the tiimes.

Florida has not seen this raw version of Cabaret not since SDC Director Ron Hutchins review by Jack Zink- Raw Cabaret Takes A Walk On The Dark Side.  A celebrated Broadway veteran, McNicholl also captures the raw side of CabaretBT McNicholl has directed musicals such as Billy Elliot and Spamalot, and wrote and directed the musical The It Girl.  He is the premiere director given permission to direct this particular revival the 1998 Broadway revival, which ran for 2,377 performances – of Cabaret.  The show went on to become the third longest-running revival in Broadway musical history. “The added responsibility of playing instruments forges a unique bond amongst the actors.  They truly become an orchestra ensemble, as well as an acting ensemble,” said the show’s director, BT McNicholl.

Cabaret actors-as-orchestra concept serves as a metaphor for the show’s setting and time.  The concept also allows the production to be re-imagined to focus more on its love stories and politically-fractured heartbreaks.  John Felix (Herr Schultz) and Angie Radosh (Fraulein Schneider) love story is as strong or stronger than Cliff and Sally.

John and Angie shine in acting and endearing moments of love " It Couldn't Please Me More".  When we learn these two senior age lovebirds, Jewish and German- the doomed romance because of discrimination thrown in thier faces is the showstopping moment, that beat when the music stops, the stage freezes that uncomfortable moment when Music Theatre works at its best.  Those who remember Liza Minnelli singing a happy go lucky life is a Cabaret don't know the story of a Cabaret,  prostitutes surviving despair and hunger.

Cabaret relates well today with our youth and society.  The similarities are scary with use of drugs and denial of a war torn country, rampant inflation and poverty defined the country as a carefree, anything goes and excessive world that led to Hitler’s rise..  The line "if you're not against it, you're for it"  shouts at or youth and society to stand up for what you believe in, flight back don't allow things you don't agree with to be ignored.  When Emcee removes his outer clothes to reveal a concentration camp striped suit, colors identifing him as a Jew and pink triangle depicting he is homosexual, whether you are Jewsih, balck, gay you relize the consequences of not standing up for what you believe in!

Ranked among the greatest American musicals, the Tony Award®-winning production will feature a cast that sings, dances and plays musical instruments onstage.  Take your seat at the Maltz Jupiter Theatre for Cabaret, the energetic, politically charged, seductive, and daring Tony Award®-winning production that is ranked among the greatest American musicals.

Cabaret performances run January 10 through 29, 2012 the show is set amid the decadence of 1929 Weimar Germany’s netherworld and follows the unlikely romance between writer Cliff Bradshaw and performer Sally Bowles.  “For those who think they’ve seen Cabaret before, I encourage you to come see the Theatre’s production, as we always breathe new life into classic musicals,” artistic director Andrew Kato said. “Our Cabaret is a dramatic, intimate piece, with politically-charged love stories that take center stage.”

Based on John Van Druten's 1951 play I Am a Camera and featuring a memorable Kander and Ebb score, the entire show takes place in a cabaret, setting the scene for a particularly unique aspect of the production: nearly all of the show’s performers sing, dance and play musical instruments.  The production features Broadway actress Kate Shindle (Wonderland, Legally Blonde, Miss America 1998) as Bowles; popular South Florida actor Bruce Linser (last seen at the Theatre in Deathtrap and The Full Monty) as Cliff Bradshaw; and revered New York actor Christopher Sloan (All Shook Up, The Producers) as the Emcee.

The talented, earthy and obscene company includes: Aaron Bower (Fraulein Kost), Chris Chianesi (Bobby), Richard Costa (Hans, Rudy)), Ryan Denardo (Victor), John Felix (Her Schultz), Bruce Linser (Clifford Bradshaw), Megan Loomis (Texas), Michael Murnoch (Max), Kelly Paredes (Helga), Christina Pawl (Rosie), Angie Radosh (Fraulein Schneider), Fred Rose (Ernst Ludwig), Nicole Swartzentruber (Frenchie), Laura Sheehy (Lulu), Kate Shindle (Sally Bowles), Christopher Sloan (Emcee).
