Recognizing the profound wisdom in the observation that God hath no fury like a woman scorned, Disney has captured the essence of that wisdom in a highly entertaining often joyful while sometimes scary “Maleficent” staring Angelina Jolie. As a beautiful young fairy princess Maleficent is enjoying her youth in the enchanted forest until an invading army destroys her peace and harmony. Seeking revenge Maleficent places a curse upon the newborn baby Aurora. As time progresses and circumstances change Maleficent becomes driven to purge her curse and protect the young Aurora for it is Aurora who holds the key to peace and harmony.

It is a spell binding tale told in true Disney fashion with a superb cast led by the always stunning Angelina Jolie. The special effects are abundant and fascinating and the ultimate outcome is as expected beautiful. Maleficent is a charming and fun slice of summer fun in theaters everywhere. It will delight your children preferably age 5 or more and even the adults will be thoroughly entertained. Although I will confess that there were moments when I thought perhaps it was more or less a new acting reel for Jolie. But then she is the star.

All in all Maleficent is worthy and fun even if in my opinion not a likely contender for an Academy Award. It is available both in 3 D and my preference standard 2 D. It currently has a superb approval rating of 7.5 on IMDB. Run time is just over an hour and a half and you and your children will enjoy at least 90 of those minutes. So go and do the most American thing possible; jump in the car, drive to the theater, buy a box of popcorn and tickets for the show and enjoy one of this summer’s most entertaining films.
