Summertime is near which means tailgating parties, Cinco de Mayo and other festivities are around the corner. I’m not much of a sports fan but I love hanging out with friends over a hot grill, drinks and good snacks.
As people tend to be more health-conscious, finding the right snacks can be a challenge. Popular chips found in regular supermarkets come in baked flavors but are high in sodium and sugar, others found in specialty stores are good but cost a small fortune and then you have those that are low in everything but taste like mildly flavored cardboard. Yum.
Since discovering Pepe’s snacks last year, the cracklins, chicharrones and other natural pork skin products have become a favorite. Back when I was a kid, there was one kind (is salt considered a flavor?) but varieties like Chile Limon, BBQ and Habanero are a hit with my students as well. My grandmother loves the sweet, cinnamon Churro twists with Splenda. Even my vegan friends couldn’t get enough of the puffed wheat snacks.
And guess what? Pepe's snacks are light, well-seasoned (you really taste the different types of chile peppers and spices - not just heat), inexpensive and they don’t use a days’ worth of salt to bring the flavor.
So whether you’re trying to fit into skinny jeans, a thong bikini or just want to eat healthier for a better quality of life, try Pepe’s snacks. They don’t taste like Styrofoam or some kind of experiment and they’re easy on your wallet.
