Baltimore's Ballyhoo! are presently touring in support of "Daydreams," their 2011 release that debuted at #1 on the Reggae Charts. Having toured extensively in 2012 on the Vans Warped Tour, they are showing no signs of slowing down in 2013. They played a lively show at University of Wisconsin-Madison's Union South at The Sett on Saturday, Feb. 16.

Mixing a blend of rock and reggae with a dash of punk, Ballyhoo! played a strong set on Saturday night for the Union crowd. They opened with "The Quest" from "Do It For The Money!" and instantly had fans on their feet. Though the crowd was light, perhaps due to the sold out Umphrey's McGee show across town, those who were there were both energetic and sang along from start to finish.
Vocalist and guitarist Howi Spangler kept the flow fresh, his verses danced upon J.R. Gregory's heavy bass lines. Brother Donald Spangler kept the rhythm moving on drums. Howi's vocals were tight and their music spanned influences from Sublime to 311.
"Scarlet Blue," "Walk Away" and "Getaway" were highlights of the show. They mixed in a couple new songs as well, including the upbeat "Out of My Mind." Howi introduced "Close to Me" as "This song is about the choices I have made, I wish I could say I'm sorry." The limited their set to about an hour, closing with "Cerveza." A short set by headline standards, but it was a free gig at the Union and fans were happy to catch the set.
