Internationally renowned German Stylist Peter Fehrentz has written the perfect guide to an affordable, satisfying and chic little DIY project book: Made by Yourself
The subtitle of this book is: 100% Handmade Designer DIY Projects for the Home, from Furniture to Accessories and, we love this book.
To begin, it has the necessary tools and materials list, along with step-by-step instructions, and a few templates for cardboard projects in the back.
Each chapter is dedicated to a different material such as glass, ceramics; wood, leather, paper and so on including metal, stone and plaster, etc.
The projects are rated according to their degree of difficulty—from 01-easy to 06-difficult—and it also gives an indication as to the amount of time involved in hours and approximate cost. These are basically furniture and decorative crafts, but they are not crafty crappy projects!
The book opens with a very cool cake stand using individually sized plates—4 of them—in various sizes that are held together by a rod threaded through the middle so a ceramic drill bit, electronic drill and a hacksaw are required. If that seems too challenging, try the see-through picture frames or decorative wall plates.
Have an antique suitcase? Try making a side table out of it on pages 28 and 29. Leather flowers are unique and cool-looking (pages 46-47) or try to make the leather pouf on pages 52 and 53.
Love collages? Pendant lamp, steel pinboard, and industrial-looking side tables? How about tackling a malachite box, a rope tray, or the dotty chest of drawers. There are 48 projects in all and, we think you should like what you’ve done after.
