When I moved to NYC in the 90’s to attend the Fashion Institute of Technology one of my first group projects was to stroll up and down Madison Avenue to checkout cool boutiques and write up a shopping report of what we found afterward. I never heard of MacKenzie-Childs until this shopping trip (the store was originally located on Madison but it’s now located at 20 West 57th Street).

I still remember my first visit to this vividly. Upon entering the store there was a big cage that greeted you and yes it actually had live barnyard fowl in it! I thought that was pretty cool and unique. Then again the whole store was unique. MacKenzie-Childs had the most innovative home good products I had ever seen. Everything is expertly handcrafted so no two are 100% alike. I fell in love with all their tableware and glassware. I loved the distinctive designs, patterns and the vibrant colors for which the brand is best known. This was a long time ago, but I still find myself to this day browsing around the store at its new location on 57th street. They have so many fun products to look at.

Needless to say, when I heard that MacKenzie-Childs recently launched a collection just for baby I couldn’t wait to check it out! The Animal Parade line consists of a quilt, diaper stacker, knit blankets, dinnerware sets, bibs, placemats, and hooded towel sets. I jumped at the chance to review the dinnerware set and bib in the frog pattern for my little guy who is turning one next month.

The pieces finally arrived and it was such a special treat to have this lovely dinnerware set and bib for my son. The dinnerware set came beautifully packaged in a keepsake box with a barnyard art design. The set consists of a segmented plate, fork, spoon, cup, and bowl. It is BPA free and dishwasher safe but the company recommends hand washing. The bib is fantastic and not just for the adorable embroidered frog design but the fact that it is long! A long bib keeps baby mess free when eating. I didn’t have to change my baby’s shirt or pants after he wears this bib. I love the coverage that this bib gives. Plus, it’s so sweet to look at! The frog even has MacKenzie-Childs’ famous black and white check print as his bow tie.

If you happen to be on the hunt for a great baby gift, any of the pieces from MacKenzie-Childs’ baby line would make for a truly special gift. I would suggest the dinnerware set and matching bib. The box that the dinnerware set comes in is just so precious. You have to see it in person and you’ll know what I mean. I have a five-year-old daughter as well and she wants the box to put all her stuff in it! She loves the design as well. I was extremely happy when I received it and I think other moms would be thrilled to receive this as a gift!

In addition to the frog pattern, the dinnerware set and bib are also available in an alphabet farm, lamb and fruit bowl pattern. The dinner sets retail for $48 each and the bibs retail for $25 each. All products can be purchased at MacKenzie-Childs stores or online at www.mackenzie-childs.com. The NYC store is located at 20 West 57th Street, New York, NY 10019. The store phone number is 212-570-6050.
