Action stars Dolph Lundgren and Scott Adkins have already teamed up in films before to bring the action so knowing they are back at it again is already a plus for any action film. Their latest film Legendary takes them in a different direction as opposed to the usual martial arts shoot ‘em up action and instead into the world of the monster genre, but does it live up to its title or will it be a legend you prefer not to believe?
Legendary follows a man and his team who travel to China in search of what isn't supposed to exist, their mission to capture a Cryptid which is wreaking havoc in a remote village and they need to do this before it is killed by a legendary bounty hunter. Going into this film you cannot help but hope form some awesome martial arts action, but get that out of your head now because there is none. This is a monster film much in the vein of some of the SyFy Channel films, just not as cheesy as a whole. They work to keep the story as serious as they can and it works if you watch it as the cheesy genre film it is, but if you are expecting much more you will be sorely disappointed. The special effects are far from perfect and do work at times, but for the most part do fall into that same SyFy category. This is a pretty straight forward B-rate monster flick that is sure to find an audience and sports to actual action icons that help to make it more than it would have been otherwise.
This is one of those movies that most will hate, but those that thrive on this genre will no doubt have a blast. It was a bit disappointing to see these two guys together and not get the action you expect and that will likely put most people off in the end, but if you can get past that then sit back and enjoy the silly fun of it all.
