Driving by at 40 mph, The Summit Pub could be easily overlooked, but what a waste of a good lunch break that would be. This establishment doesn’t put on airs, but it certainly does step up and fill your gullet. While the Summit Pub may not include ‘bar & grill’ in its title, the menu proves that this pub is much more than it seems.
Take a seat anywhere and quickly a server will arrive with coasters, menus and a smile. Of course, the Summit Pub maintains a fully stocked bar and boasts over two dozen beers on tap. With so many choices, deciding on a drink may take longer than the meal itself.
Daily specials offer an easy solution to cutting costs while maintaining quality. Deals such as Taco Tuesday and Thirsty Thursday make every day inviting. Wednesday offers a BLT that tips the scale with a pound of bacon, and Fish Friday rounds out the work week with a side of clam chowder. Weekend specials include favorites like grilled cheese with tomato soup.
Not to worry if the daily special doesn’t hit the spot. This menu is packed full of delicious items at remarkable prices. There is an extensive list of sandwiches to choose from such as the Philly Cheese Steak, French Dip and Italian Chicken Sandwich. The selection of burgers is outstanding, each loaded with mouth-watering toppings. The Western burger is enough to satisfy any cowboy with mounds of onions rings, bacon, pepper jack cheese and BBQ sauce. The Summit burger is a juicy ½ pound beef patty made with your choice of cheese and toppings.
Then there is the ‘You Name It Burger’ challenge. This challenge begins with four ½ pound patties stacked together to make one towering burger and 3 pounds of steak fries . Next up comes the clock - finish this five-pound-plus meal in 45 minutes or less and it’s yours to name. The burger name remains until another challenger wins, while your name remains on the winner’s wall for all time. That’s one way to make a lunch hour live on in infamy.
On the cusp of Tacoma & Puyallup, the Summit Pub is a welcome stop for anyone seeking a good meal and a cold drink. 9502 Canyon Road E., 253-536-1588, www.thesummitpub.com
