The theme for this month's Loot Crate, a monthly subscription for geeks and gamers, was Transform! At $18/month each crate has something new and different. My six-year-old boy was ecstatic to find out that the main highlight of the Loot Crate was a hex bug. Here's Loot Crate's description:
The battle for Cybertron and energon cubes comes to your home! Take a look at these micro bots, flip up their insignias and send them to fight each other! Have other Hex Bugs? You can even introduce them to the fray!
And the description of the toy from Amazon:
Each HEXBUG Nano TRANSFORMERS comes with transformable clip-on armor backpacks inspired by popular TRANSFORMERS characters. Swap out the armor combinations for epic TRANSFORMERS action! Powered by a tiny motor, and 12 fixed, angular legs, the HEXBUG Nano explores its environment, moving with life-like bug behavior. When coming into contact with an object in its path, the energetic insect will switch directions and scurry away on a new path due to its persistent random behavior.
My son is a big fan of Hex Bugs, so he knew what to do with it. That said, Hex Bugs tend to go through minor tweaks that make them incompatible with other sets (one of our storage containers doesn't fit newer Hex Bugs). These Hex Bugs are essentially just typical Hex Bugs with Transformers branding and some accessories like wings.
My son got Bumblebee and rated this toy "epic" (five stars). You can purchase this toy at Amazon.
