The theme for this month's Loot Crate, a monthly subscription for geeks and gamers, was Transform! At $18/month each crate has something new and different. A major piece of this set is the Transformers Blind Box from The Loyal Subjects. This is part of the vinyl toy trend, which went to my daughter. She was very happy with it (and runs around shouting, "pew-pew!" at her brother). There's an egregious typo on the stat card for the character we got, however -- at first I thought this meant that Loot Crate was getting cheap knockoffs of the Transformers toys, but it turns out that the typo is endemic to the entire line.

Here's more about The Loyal Subjects:

The Loyal Subjects, a well known collectibles and designer art toy company teams up with Hasbro to introduce a new line of collectible Transformers and G.I. JOE figurines. The Transformers collectibles are a range pulled from the Transformers' most famous and infamous characters. Heralding from the collector's choice, the Gen 1 Transformers Universe. The Transformers line targets age group 15 and up and has been well received by the Transformers faithful, selling out of the first run before the product landed. Some of the chase figures are selling upwards to $100.00 on Ebay. The collectibles boast several points of articulation, unique sculpted and nuanced character attributes, character specific accessories, Bio cards and most importantly, you're favorite character!

We got Starscream in our blind box. Who doesn't know Starscream? After Megatron, Starscream (who was voiced by Chris Latta, the same actor who voiced Cobra Commander) was the scheming second-in-command, always secretly trying to usurp his fearless leader. With his scientific background, his high-pitched screechy voice, and the fact that he turned into a mother-effing JET, Starscream was the bomb. So imagine our delight when that's the character we get in this Blind Box. A closer look at the stat card revealed a surprised: they misspelled "Starscream" as "Starcream." So...many...inappropriate..jokes...

The bio is a word-for-word reprint of "Starscream's", but the tech specs differ from the original. "Starscream's" original tech specs are:

  • Strength: 7
  • Intelligence: 7
  • Speed: 9
  • Endurance: 7
  • Rank: 5
  • Courage: 8
  • Firepower: 7
  • Skill: 7

And here's how "Starcream" stacks up:

  • Strength: 7
  • Intelligence: 8
  • Speed: 9
  • Endurance: 8
  • Rank: 5
  • Courage: 8
  • Firepower: 8
  • Skill: 8

It's pretty clear nobody cares about what's on these cards. My daughter didn't care either; she rated it "Epic" (five stars).
