Loot Crate is a monthly service in which you receive geek-friendly merchandise at a discount, grouped around a particular theme. This month’s theme was villains, which is pretty broad – villains are in all kinds of media so the possibilities for what might be inside were endless. These bright red socks feature Deadpool’s face on them and were a big hit with my son:
We had considered putting chimichangas in every crate, but it was messy in trials. Check out these awesome socks that give you a hint of anti-hero without the pricey costs of lairs, weapons and medical bills. While there is a debate about how much of a villain Wade is.. I mean.. Deadpool socks.
Ironically, my six-year-old boy doesn’t actually know anything about Deadpool except what he’s seen at conventions. Deadpool is a frequent icon along with Spider-Man, but he’s considerably less kid –friendly (well, he’s friendly TO kids, but he’s not kid-reading material). That doesn’t prevent him from being recognized as the “other red guy wearing a mask who looks like Spider-Man but isn’t.”
Not everyone’s going to go for these socks, but the boy’s favorite color is red so he was very happy with them. He rated them a four out of five stars.
