Loot Crate is a monthly service in which you receive geek-friendly merchandise at a discount, grouped around a particular theme. This month’s theme was villains, which is pretty broad – villains are in all kinds of media so the possibilities for what might be inside were endless. The Joker has already been covered in two other products in the crate, but fortunately someone else got some recognition he deserves: Darth Vader! As an itty-bitty keychain:
It can’t be all about comic books because we’d be leaving out another famous villain entirely! Darth Vader still remains one of the most notorious and well-known good-guys-gone-wrong stories in movies! Why not take him with you everywhere to remind yourself it’s okay to be a little bit bad.
Good ole Darth used to be everywhere, but given his new revisionist makeover by Lucas in which Darth’s just a cute kid trying to get by in a harsh world, it’s a lot harder to love him as the ultimate cybernetic black knight. Fortunately, there’s no such allusions here -- Darth is just Darth, no cute blonde moppet or brooding teenager for kids to look up to.
Despite this, my son gleefully added the keychain to his backpack and wore it proudly next to his Boba Fett keychain. I half-expected them to high-five for getting the gang back together again. My son rated it epic (five out of five stars).
