Loot Crate is a monthly service in which you receive geek-friendly merchandise at a discount, grouped around a particular theme. This month’s theme was heroes, which is even broader than last month's villains theme. The hero of note for this particularly item is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, specifically Donatello in miniature form. Also, there's "Ooze Action" which doesn't mean what you might think -- the turtles merely glow in the dark.
Now in my house each superhero is lined up with a particular child, so Donatello -- because he's purple -- is my daughter's favorite. My son's favorite is Michelangelo (natch) so although Donatello was well-received he wasn't quite greeted with the enthusiasm that Mikey might elicit. This will be relevant for other items in this set as well, but hey, it's random.
What's particularly awesome though is that the shipping container -- said Crate of "Loot Crate" -- is a playset for your TMNT figure! There's even a three-dimensional couch you can form out of the box itself. I was just tickled by this, but curiously there's no mention of it in Loot Crate's accompanying booklet, almost like it was an afterthought. We saw some hints of customizing the interior of the box with the Villains Loot Crate, and I'm glad to see they've taken it to the next level. This makes the box itself part of the fun.
As a result, my son rewarded this item an "Epic," five out of five stars. Want your own Loot Crate? Sign up at LootCrate.com ($19.37/month for one month) and use code SAVE10 to receive 10% off.
