"9.0: Live" is the first live album released in 2005 on Roadrunner Records by American metal act, Slipknot. The line-up for the album was Corey Taylor (vocals), Mick Thompson (guitar), Shawn Crahan (percussion), Craig Jones (keyboards), Jim Root (guitar), Chris Fehn (percussion), Paul Gray (bass), Joey Jordison (drums) and Sid Wilson (turntables).
As far as debut live albums go, it would be difficult not to be impressed with "9.0: Live". You get two CDs worth of 24 songs, spanning the band's first three studio albums, and a taste of what a frenetic Slipknot show sounds like.
Slipknot has come a long way since their eponymous debut album in 1999, and the band has enjoyed worldwide success since then with their unique way of boiler suits and custom masks. It's not just the image of the band which works, though; the music is very good too.
The blistering pace of "(sic)", the chorus of "Vermilion" and the amazing drumming of Joey Jordison on "Duality" stand out as memorable moments on the album, amongst a gem of many. Of course, nearly every live album has a bad moment, and although there aren't many on "9.0: Live" there are still some present. "Eeyore" has been played live many times but Slipknot seems to amble through it, as if to just get it out of the way. Likewise with "Disasterpiece" which plods along with no purpose.
You'd only really want this album if you're a big fan of Slipknot. If you're curious and want to listen to what they're all about, you're best off with their debut album. If you are, however, a big fan of the band, then this album is for you. This is what Slipknot is like live, and you don't want to miss out on that.
