Live music review: Budos Band brings Brooklyn badness to Austin's Stubb's BBQ

The deep, funky bass lines, frantic conga drums and brassy horns of Budos Band from Brooklyn, NY took over the Stubb's BBQ stage Saturday evening, headlining the Mardi Gras on Red River event produced by Knuckle Rumbler. A sizeable crowd of several hundred fans gathered at Stubb's to dance to Budos' dark, mysterious and ultimately danceable set in cool temperatures that did nothing to discourage music fans from cheering on 9-piece collective as they rambled through their show.

What we found unique about Budos' sound was the psychedelic, spaciness that comes along with the soulful horns. If there is such a thing as evil party music, Budos Band defines the genre. Images of islanders, bonfires and voodoo fill your head as you watch this wicked, fun band perform.
