Little Anita's: what's lacking in service, made up for with taste

Little Anita's of Colorado, serves up decent New Mexican food at inexpensive prices. There is room for improvement, but overall a decent place for a meal.

The food is good, but inconsistent. The service is lacking, and the ambiance feels like a cafeteria, but free sopapillas are awesome, if they forget to bring them out, go get 'em.

Starting off with the food, New Mexican is similar to Southwestern, but with it's own flare. Done correctly, it is delicious. Little Anita's does it mostly correctly, but the level of care comes through differently upon each visit. Consistency is huge for any restaurant, and they just miss the mark. As far as actual flavor to the food, again it is good, but a long way from being great. They do manage to keep their prices nice and low, so that does put things in some perspective.

Service, oh the service! It would be nice to have someone working behind the counter that showed any sign of a pulse. With unemployment so high, why do these types of places constantly employ teens that have no work ethic whatsoever and just do not care! They just stand at the register, like a robot and punch in orders, gosh forbid they greet you with a smile, or even greet you at all. This is definitely not just a Little Anita's problem, but at many different establishments throughout Colorado.

Now on to the better news! At the end of your meal, Little Anita's offers up a little surprise to their guests. An order of sopapillas for free! Yep, for free, a very nice touch.....they are not exactly the best sopapillas, but they are free. They are supposed to bring them to your table, but that teen talked about earlier may forget, so don't be afraid to ask!

Again, none of the food served at Little Anita's will blow you away, but it is quick and inexpensive. Keep the free sopapillas coming!

They get 4 stars for food.

They get 1 star for service.
