Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Cowabunga Classics

Ever since their debut in the original comics in 1984 the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have been taking the world by storm. They have had numerous incarnations on TV and the big screen, but none have hit the popularity of the original animated series that debuted in 1987. Now Lionsgate is bringing home the fan favorite episodes in the all new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Cowabunga Classics DVD.

Despite this series stepping away from the darker and more serious tone it still managed to capture the fan base and become the go to cannon for the turtles. The series was clearly geared more towards kids and focused more on humor while still bringing strange new villains that would keep the turtles on their toes. The series also delivered all new characters to the mythology and changed up some of the story, but worked nonetheless. This collection features a wide variety of fun episodes from seasons 1-7, including the two part “Planet of the Turtleoids’ story that ran as a prime time special from season 5. Despite the kid friendly aspect to the series it showcased plenty of martial arts action letting the turtles display their own brand of justice against Shredder and whatever strange characters that he pointed in their direction all while making sure to get in plenty of skateboarding and pizza consumption. Throughout its 30 years in as a mainstay in popular culture this series continues to be probably the best incarnation of the characters establishing an entire wild fun world throughout its 10 seasons.

With a new incarnation of the animated series currently on TV and the new film on its way to theaters what better time than now to relive the animated series that started it all. This DVD features 10 fan-favorite episodes, as well as numerous bonus features including interviews and featurettes. Grab a pizza and join in on the classic ninja fun when Teenage Muntant Ninja Turtles: Cowabunga Classics comes to DVD on July 29th.
