LimeBerry on Lakewood Drive West is one of the new self-serve frozen yogurt places in the area. Like Gibson's, LimeBerry has 10 - 12 flavors of frozen yogurt and sorbet in their machines and a hefty selection of toppings to choose from. Since both places use YoCream brand products, it's easier to make direct comparisons about quality. LimeBerry seemed to have a more consistent, creamy texture than Gibson's, though one flavor came out extremely thick and almost frosting like.
Cake Batter, which is apparently the number one flavor, had good sweetness and did taste like white cake. The Fancy French Vanilla was rich and sweet. The Pomegranate Raspberry Sorbet is much better than the No Sugar Added Raspberry frozen yogurt, because it maintains more of the original tartness of the fruit. The bright, yellow-green Green Apple Tart frozen yogurt does a fine job of replicating a Granny Smith apple.
The long toppings bar extends out of the wall with the self-serve machines and reaches to the cash registers near the door. Customers can only access one side, however, so if it's busy, a little patience may be required. There are plenty of candies and sauces to choose from, but none were sampled.
Price and atmosphere are what separate LimeBerry and Gibson's the most. At 45 cents an ounce, LimeBerry is 2 cents more than Gibson's. Their Happy Hour specials, though, can offer significant discounts and are available from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The woman behind the counter was nice and helpful, but was the only one working at the time and seemed more or less stuck behind the counter. There's plenty of seating, but it just doesn't come across as much of a hangout spot.
In the end, it's about the frozen yogurt, and there's no reason to drive past LimeBerry.
