In this book, Marni Mann tells the story of a young heroin addict named Nicole Brown. Once a relatively good girl who would experiment with different substances at parties, a traumatic event plunges her into the depths of heroin addiction.
The author has mentioned all the research she did when preparing to write this book and it shows. Throughout this dark tale she perfectly captures not only the desperation and denial of the addict but the pain, frustration and betrayal of their loved ones. Time and again, Brown makes promises to herself and others she ultimately decides not to keep. Each time, she just digs herself into an even worse mess that makes her want to use even more. Just be warned that it's pretty graphic and pulls no punches when describing a life on the streets chasing highs.
