Lift your Lighters and Snap your Fingers

Forget all of the lights, dim the lights. D. Hayes, EXG held a pre-Valentine’s Day slow jam session at Hailey’s last night.

A few couples slow-danced with smiles, single fans indulged in cheap wells and good conversation during the performance transitions. During D. Hayes’ performances of the night, everyone gazed at the stage as if Hailey’s comet was exploding through the multicolored lights.

Sharla Brown accompanied Hayes’ performance with the perfect assortment of strings to give a reason for his words. The full band with the inclusion of his voice made the songs beautifully fraction away from other R&B artists.

The most infectious and radio-ready songs are “Special Girl,” “Beast,” and the self-titled track, “No Stage Name from his latest EP.

Tre Bishop also graced the stage with an all-black suit with charm that created high-pitched screams from the women in the audience. Bishop performed with fellow EXG member, Campion Bond who sported an attire dark as night as well. The two made a great pair with hip hop, stimulating falsettos and crescendos.  EXG flew and did not fall—as their motto goes.

However, I would like to see them perform without an off-beat,  ill-interpretation of the Pussy Cat Dolls next time. The only people that need distracting, gimmicky background dancers are those who are not already talented.

In case you did not get to set the lights down low before for the 14th, you will have another chance March 2nd at House of Blues in Dallas once D. Hayes will be singing alongside, Rudy the Maestro, The WordSmith, Ben Cina.
