This hybrid version of the venerable Lexus luxury crossover gets an impressive 32 mpg city, 28 highway and is powered by a 3.5-liter V-6 engine and an electric drive system that makes 295 horsepower. It has a continuously variable automatic transmission, with the rear wheels being driven by the electric motor.
For the 2015 model year, a seven-inch dashboard screen with rear camera is standard. Another change for the model year is the LED fog lights that are available with the high-intensity discharge headlights. And, Lexus has improved its remote touch controller to make it more ergonomically friendly.
On the inside, such features as real wood trim, a sliding, reclining split-bench rear seat and optional premium stereo system make the RX 450h a truly luxurious ride. Other options include heated and ventilated front seats, dual-screen rear entertainment system and heated steering wheel.
The exterior features 18-inch alloy wheels, with 19-inch wheels being optional, blue logo accents and a hybrid badge, LED daytime running lights and a power liftgate.
But in addition to its many great features, the thing you might really appreciate about the RX 450h is the terrific fuel economy in a vehicle that comfortably seats five passengers.
So feel free to take a lengthy road trip, let everyone pack a bag or two (the cargo area is adequately roomy) and don't worry about spending a fortune on fuel.
The ride is smooth and pleasant. It's not particularly performance oriented, but it really doesn't need to be with this type of vehicle.
It gets you where you want to go in style and comfort.
But if you want a little bit of performance mojo, Lexus does make the RX 350, the non-hybrid version, with its F Sport technology.
The RX 450h starts at around $47,500 and goes up to about $49,000.
If a midsize SUV with great fuel efficiency is what you're hankering for, the RX 450h might be the perfect choice for you.
