The end of February brought a fabulous batting event sponsored by CVS Caremark, while hosted by the batting coaches and staff of the World Champion Boston Red Sox. All shared with the Lee County Boys and Girls Clubs. A fabulous event to help launch another great year at JetBlue Park for this year's spring training season.
The guests were greeted at the gate personally by none other than the green monster mascot of the Red Sox, Wally. Hugs exchanged and then onto some posing shots with Wally, baseballs and memorabilia signed and quick group lunch. The smiles on the children's faces were more than worth the effort placed into this event, this was a well planned afternoon all the way around.
Next it was off to the outdoor batting cages for some fun. Each child got to participate in a brief batting warm up, taking suggestions from battng coaches Greg Colbrunn and Victor Rodriguez. Some of these kids had great batting form and could be knocking balls out of parks near you in the future. This set the road to some fun for all attending watching the participants have a blast in the batting cages with the threatening bat experts of the Boston Red Sox. Some great screaming liners were sent to the corners of the separating nets and the photographer took a good line drive knee shot, for a complete experience. It was all in good fun shared. The pick up party for the baseballs looked like an Easter egg hunt and after clean up, it was time to take the coached batters to the home plate batters box of Fenway South, at JetBlue Park.
Everyone was lead into the Red Sox dugout for a quick 'player's view' of the immaculate field being prepared for yet another fabulous spring training season in the Grapefruit League. Some great group shots were taken along the green monster of Fenway South and then it was show time in the batters box of the big house at JetBlue Park.
Coach Rodriguez pitched to each participant, while Coach Colbrunn gave pointers to the batters while in the box to let loose and crack some baseballs into Red Sox outfield territory. After all batters got a good swing at things it was time to have some ice cream in the dugout and allow the kids to have some time with the coaches. Coaches Colbrunn and Rodriguez spent time autographing baseballs and answering some questions, taking photographs. They did an awesome job with this group and event so thanks out to these gentelmen for their afternoon dedicated to the community of SW Florida and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Lee County.
It was an absolute pleasure capturing this event and special thanks out to: Jennifer and Alisha with CVS Caremark, Amanda with the Boston Red Sox, Coaches Colbrunn and Rodriguez of the Boston Red Sox, JetBlue Park, Boys and Girls Clubs of Lee County: participating children and their families.
