For the American man, the T-shirt is an absolute staple. While utilitarian at the very least, this comfortable essential can be dressed up with a nice jacket, or down with some well-worn jeans. Their versatility knows no bounds, and when it is finally time to retire one, an old T-shirt makes a great rag for cleaning up messes around the kitchen or in the engine bay of that project car you keep meaning to get on the road. Thanks to American Giant, however, the transition from old favorite to rag bag has been extended almost indefinitely.
The American made Heavyweight Short Sleeve Pocket T-shirt from American Giant is a thing of beauty. It’s 6.2 ounce 100% cotton jersey is supple and dense and feels like an old favorite right out of the bag. The weight of this cloth is reminiscent of the Carhartt Workwear T-shirt, but the feel of it is completely different. It is considerably softer and loftier than any T-shirt in my collection, and that’s saying something.
In addition to the heavy jersey, this shirt is built to be a multigenerational hand-me-down. The seam work is flawless and backed with interior taping on the sides, neck, and shoulder for maximum comfort and peerless durability. The custom ribbing at the collar contains 3% lycra, and American Giant’s claim that it will not stretch out has so far proven to be true. This is no easy feat with a head as big as mine.
If you want a soft, comfortable T-shirt that is an instant classic and nearly indestructible, the American Giant Heavyweight is the shirt for you. For more information or to make a purchase, click here.
