Last minute Green Christmas gifts

Time is running out. What to do? How about going to Publix (yes, Publix) to purchase several of their reusable bags. Consider at least four or five bags. If a person is really serious about using fewer single use plastic bags one or two bags won’t do it.

Publix has several reusable bag designs sporting apples and strawberries that are very attractive. They are also inexpensive as well as utilitarian. Finally wrap the bags together with one single bow ... no need for extra wrapping paper. Less is more in this situation,

If you think the person you are buying the green gift for wouldn’t mind waiting a few extra days, go the Bagnesia website. The women who own Bagnesia have come up with absolutely the best line of reusable bags and reminders to help any neophyte Greenie get the hang of eliminating those unnecessary plastic bags that clutter the environment. The hardest thing about using fewer plastic bags is remembering to bring them with you when you shop. The Bagnesia steering wheel wrap puts the message in front of the driver so it is impossible to forget to bring those bags with you. It says, "Grab your bags!"

A set of glass bowls is practically a necessity now that we know reheating foods in plastic has its health risks. Most of the glass bowl sets come with plastic lids, but there are some sets that can be purchased with glass lids. The glass bowl sets can be purchased for under $25.00 at stores including Macy’s, Crate & Barrel, and Target.

There are so many reasons to stop drinking water out of single use plastic bottles in addition to cost and the BPA that is used to manufacture them. We throw away 60 million plastic bottles every day and only a small percentage of the bottles are ever recycled.

Consider the Clear2o Water Filter pitcher or the Brita Aqualux pitcher; both are excellent products. These pitchers are a great way to save money and save the environment at the same time. Both pitchers take tap water and filter the impurities and bad taste commonly found in municipal water. These are compact units that will fit in any refrigerator allowing the user to have fresh pure water any time and at a fraction of the cost of bottled water found in grocery stores,

With just a little creativity go forth and spread good cheer for a Merry and Green Holiday season with these last minute gifts.

Thanks for the Green suggestions! I recieved a "pur" water filter for my faucet this Christmas and it is the most useful and sensible gifts I could have hoped for. I'm on board with you-lets not let the Holiday season be a season of waste!

I recently purchased a Brita 5 cup pitcher. I've been holding blind taste tests to see if friends who swear they can tell the difference between bottled waters, tap water, and the Brita filtered water really can.

Surprise, surprise, surprise ... the bottled waters keep failing and the newly filtered Brita waters keep winning. Great fun while trying to help the environment!
