So, Scotty and I thought, "What a fun idea for a date night, take in a dinner theatre, something simple, maybe meet a friend for a nosh afterward, easy right?
OR, be steamrolled by a barrage of feathers and lashes (eye lashes, tongue lashings and a bullwhip to name a few), and take in a few toddies with the funnest theatre full of people you could ever imagine! What a night, what a night.
Our evening began outside Kelowna Actors Studio, enjoying a mild sunset, when a massive fouf of lime green began floating toward us down Ellis Street. Was it an ectoplasm? Was is a toxic Telletubby gas? Was it a lifesize Jolly Rancher?!?!
Or was it our own, illustrious ODDREE MAYORMAYNOT floating down the sidewalk in a sea of lime chiffon, of course!
Oddree, known city-wide as the stunning public figure who kissed our past mayor Walter Gray in the newspapaer to proclaim Okanagan Pride, was a special guest host of "Rainbow Night" at La Cage Aux Folles, which proved to attract one colourful audience. Was this a hint that we needed to seatbelt ourselves to the dinner table for the ride of our lives? Yes indeed.

Let me start by giving you a vision of what its like to be a guest at Kelowna Actors Studio. From the moment you walk in the doors, you are hugged and welcomed like a family reunion. The theatre feels like what you would imagine the Moulin Rouge in Paris to feel like. Velvets, draperies, darkwoods, Marie-Antoinette-like hostesses, cozy dinner tables. It was like we were about to enjoy a vaudeville performance in our own comfy living room, except a handsome front-of-house manager Cory was directing a glamourous traffic circle all around us.
Being our first experience in a dinner theatre setting, we honestly had no idea what to expect. Impeccable attentive service, and a high standard of food is what you can expect, and I'm a picky boy. If you are a libations connoisseur, Kelowna Actors Studio can offer everything from a fancy Feather Boa mixed cocktail to a Pinot Gris to a top shelf Oban scotch, extensive menu that will please any palate.
Our dinner was, very honestly, underpriced and prepared with a huge amount of love. I anticipated a high quality Beef Shortrib, and was delivered a sumptuous tender plating of beef that was more tender than any lamb shoulder I have ever tried! It was ridicuoulously tender, so much so that I needed only brush a fork across the top and it fell apart. Paired with sweet root veggies and creamy whipped potatoes, it was that comfort food that, again, made me feel like I was reclined at home enjoying dinner with family.
Oh yeah!!!!! There was also a full-blown theatre performance...!!!! Let me tell you about it after a lunch break, all this talk of good food is making me drool.
