Most living in the Los Angeles area, particularly in the west side, can agree that there is a shortage of excellent Chinese restaurants. Finding good vegetarian Chinese food? Even more of a challenge.
The few Chinese restaurants in the general vicinity often have a very limited vegetarian menu. Vegetarians like to see more on the menu than just fried tofu and egg rolls!
West Hollywood's Kung Pao Bistro, although not exclusively vegetarian, has a vast selection of vegetarian dishes, going as far to include an entire menu page dedicated to vegan and vegetarian meals!
Having just remodeled their interior (including new booths, tables, chairs and flooring) and exterior (including new signage), there is an impression that heart and soul is being put into this establishment. Cleanliness is also offered here; it is cleaner than the often deplorable conditions of some restaurants in outlying neighborhoods.
Food quality and aesthetics are on a high end scale while the prices are not. Lunch specials are available daily from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m, with prices ranging from $7.00 to $9.00. Accompanying any lunch special are spinach and lettuce salad, a choice of three soups including: egg drop, miso or hot and sour, a delicious egg roll, and choice of brown or white rice. The brown rice was very soft and went well with the salad.
Overall, the health consciousness maintained here is quite notable. Trans-fats and hydrogenated oils aren't used here, 100% vegetable oil is. Kung Pao’s staff is very friendly and attentive. The exceptionally exuberant and accommodating co- owner Eddie, expressed a concern about ensuring 100% customer satisfaction, and he expressed his intent to provide more environmentally sound “to go” and “take out” packaging.
A newly added 8 draft beers on tap will surely keep guests coming during their daily 4pm to 7pm “Happy Hour “. Kung Pao Bistro offers pickup and delivery options, however dine in only specials are also available. Averaging 3 and a half star on yelp this place is surely one to not miss out on.
