Kraken A.M.S. Case for the iPhone 5/5S

With the pleasure of reviewing a good number of cell phone and tablet cases, I finally had a chance to test an iPhone case from Trident Case.

The top of the line Kraken A.M.S. case for the iPhone 5/5S has been out for awhile, but there is a new design for 2014 and this excellent product continues to be worthy of mention and praise, not only for its durability but also for its versatility.

Over the past few months, I’ve been fortunate enough to review the Kraken A.M.S. case for both the iPad and iPad Air. Using the former product almost exclusively, I contacted Trident Case in hopes of reviewing the iPad Air version after receiving Apple’s latest tablet over the holidays. And now, just as my first case, consider the iPad Air version my “go to” case.

With regards to the iPhone version, it’ll be my “go to” case for road navigation using Google Maps but I have to be brutally honest – it won’t replace my current case. Why? Because I prefer to leave my wallet at home and just carry around a case that holds my driver’s license, credit cards, cash etc. Of course, this is not to say that the Kraken A.M.S. case for the iPhone 5/5S isn’t rock solid, because it is and for other consumers, it may be just the best smartphone case they can buy for all their own unique needs.

Product descriptions and helpful instructional videos can all be found online through Trident Case, but a few of the top features include a three layer system consisting of a sold belt clip/holster belt, exoskeleton front plate and exoskeleton back plate and a built-in screen protector. The case also meets or exceeds MIL-STD-810F, a product evaluation system used by the Department of Defense, which includes testing for drop protection, rain and vibration. Missing from the new Kraken A.M.S. case is the open circular section I really liked that exposes the Apple logo at the back of phone but it’s 20 percent thinner with added protection.

However, what really makes the entire top of the line Kraken A.M.S. series for smart phones and tablets stand out is, as mentioned previously, is its versatility. Trident Case offers an impressive array of accessories, from bike mounts and tripod attachments to auto headrest mounts and air vent mounts.

For this review, products from mobile mounting specialists Arkon were scrutinized through a series of testing - the 8.5 inch Gooseneck Suction Mount, Air Vent Mount and Lighter Socket Mount. All performed well beyond expectations although I’ll only be able to use the Lighter Socket Mount as a recharging device, since my Honda cigarette lighter outlet is mounted behind the gear shifter. For consumers whose car has a cigarette socket below the dashboard, this works fine as a mount display but others may need an extension similar to the Arkon Heavy Duty Seat Rail Mount or wait for another yet to be developed device from Arkon/Trident Case as a substitute. The Kraken A.M.S. is available for the Apple iPhone and iPads, Samsung Galaxy and other smartphones, tablets and eReaders. Both the Gooseneck Suction Mount and the Air Vent Mount were outstanding for use in my car and will be on board anytime I require roadmapping assistance.

All in all, the new Kraken A.M.S. case for the iPhone 5/5S is an exceptional product and well deserving of a five-star review and the optional accessories only punctuates its quality and practicality. The new Kraken A.M.S. smartphone case may not replace my credit card case altogether, but if Trident Case comes out with something similar, it’s a good bet it will be my “go to” case.
