Bad Grandpa - 10/27/2013
It’s been about three years since we last saw Johnny Knoxville and his “Jackass” crew. With the help of some makeup artist and a character that has been in all three of the “Jackass” movies, Knoxville brings “Bad Grandpa” to the big screen. Is the character big enough to last for an hour and a half on the big screen by himself? We will see.
Irving Zisman is an older gentleman whose wife just passed away. His daughter, who is a drug addict, is going back to jail because of her addiction and drops of her son to Irving during the funeral. She tells him to take Billy to his father in North Carolina. Irving agrees and what happens for the next hour and a half is nothing less than magical. They start in Nebraska, travel south and drive through Kansas City and head east all the way to North Carolina stopping along the way to wreak havoc in only the “Jackass” way.
The chemistry between Knoxville and Nicoll is spot on. I was worried they wouldn’t be able to have enough material to make it last and I was wrong. They do save the best for last in “Bad Grandpa” where I found myself wiping away tears from laughing so hard. Do sit through the credits because they show some behind the scenes stuff and the crew telling everyone that it was all made up. My only complaint is that they made it out to be a “real movie” like Sacha Baron Cohen does in his movies. “Bad Grandpa” is just fine going from town to town wreaking havoc all by himself without trying to give the feel of a “real movie”. Though this was the only movie I saw this weekend, my friend Tim English checked out “The Counselor” and you can check out his review below.
