Kisses, hugs, and awkward moments - OLTL in review, November 28 - December 2

Best Scene This Week:

Monday's tear-jerking scene in the Evans home that showcased Vivian's awkwardness followed by Phylicia's Thanksgiving dessert prayer overlapped Matthew flat-lining in the hospital while Phylicia specifically asked God to watch over Matthew and help him recover.  She prayed, "There are people here who need him.  Matthew needs to come back, Lord, for his mother, for his father, for Destiny.  He needs to come back for his child," as Matthew's heart started again and he woke up.

The scene was a prelude to Matthew finding out that Destiny was pregnant and arguing with his mother over Destiny's fate and the fact that they were now going to have to be teenage parents.

Eye Roll of the Week:

With scenes bouncing back and forth between Rex and Aubrey and Cutter and Stacy/Gigi's room in Rio … when Aubrey kissed Rex, it was too predictable that Cutter and Stacy/Gigi would kiss, too.

...Yet, Clint and Viki had an awkward moment that did not end in a kiss.

Character of the Week:

Viki had so much to think about this week, including Todd's erratic behavior over Tomas and Blair and how it correlated with Tomas' disappearance and the discovery of the murder weapon.  Her discussion with Todd in the kitchen of Llanfair was a beautiful dance between her concern for her brother, him confiding in her, and the two of them arguing like true soap siblings.  After Todd left, Natalie apologetically brought up to her mother that the timing of Tomas' disappearance was suspect, and Viki later had another suspicious discussion with Todd about it.

She was soon rejoicing with Clint that Matthew was awake, both happy about the news herself and happy that the weight of Matthew's condition had been lifted from Clint's chest.  The ex-husband and wife shared an elated hug that led to an awkward moment that Viki quickly made an excuse to escape from.

Dialogue of the Week:

Todd: Are you suggesting that I set my own newspaper on fire?

John: I've read it.  Did you?

Questions This Week:

If Starr is visiting the hospital and Blair is at the police station, who is watching the kids?  Jack?

Why has John McBain been having such a hard time figuring things out on his own lately?

Did you ever think about the fact that David Vickers-Buchanan and Rachel Gannon are stepbrother and sister?

If Stacy is really Gigi, how did her hair get blonde?  Was Kim giving her touchups?  Or are her roots still not showing?  Or is Gigi naturally blonde?

Fail of the Week:

For starters, while flashbacks are appreciated to remind us of past dialogue or key moments in the show, too many flashbacks can be off-putting, especially considering that viewers feel that they have limited time in which to watch the stories of their favorite characters play out.  Showing the same flashback multiple times in a one or two episode period is unnecessary and slightly annoying.

While we're on the subject, the "who killed Victor Lord, Jr." story is getting more convoluted by the minute.  We saw Todd's flashback of shooting Victor multiple times, though for some there is still reason to doubt that he did it.  Now Tomas has conveniently disappeared as the murder weapon was discovered in his room and Todd (not Tea) was the last to see him.  Todd's kids' confusion over all this is easy to identify with!  In Dani's words, "He [Tomas] confessed to killing Irene, which we know wasn't true.  Because he said he was trying to protect Todd.  Why would he do that if he was trying to cover up that he killed Victor?  It just doesn't make any sense."

Success of the Week:

The interplay of the "adults" in the lives of the "younger people" was refreshing.  Starr, Dani and Jack's concern over Tomas and Todd reflected a younger view of Blair and Tea's apprehensiveness.  Nora's influence on Matthew and Destiny was realistic and it was easy to see Nora's perspective in contrast to Matthew's.  Todd's conversation with Jack was aggressive, despite the fact that he would like to win Jack over.  Natalie had a very encouraging discussion with Shane about how even if he was a "geek," he was still cool.  Rama and Vimal dropped Neela off at Llanview High for her first day of school in America, concerned over her classes, study time, and social life.  It is nice to see the interaction between the generations and how that interaction affects their lives and decisions.
