Syracuse area musicians Kim Monroe and Chris Eves have, in my opinion, a great sound. The vibe they carry together comes through in the music every time I have had the pleasure of seeing them perform and now listening to a 3-song EP. Liz Nowak was kind enough to mail me a copy. I thank you, Liz! She is fast becoming one of my ‘favorite people ever’ involved with the local music scene. The R&B feel of these songs is evident throughout and Kim has a folksy way of delivering some powerful vocals.
Kim Monroe and Chris Eves
- Glass Heart
- Brand New Blues
- The Saddest Love Song
Glass Heart is up on my list of local favorite songs. A cool bluesy-rhythm is the backdrop as the song gets your feet tapping along. In this case, my daughter Nikki was bopping along. I figure if a six year old likes it, you’re on to something. Chris’ guitar work is solid and Kim shows off her vocal range nicely. Chris’ back-up vocals are just right and his solo work is perfect.
Brand New Blues has the duo showcasing their blues vibe. The music is old school flavored and Kim sings all over the charts. Her voice is part angelic and part sonic blast as she scales the low and highs in the song masterfully. Chris again shows off his solo skills with a tasteful display of blues axe-work.
The Saddest Song continues to show off just what these two can give an audience. Kim reaches and nails some higher notes with power and feel. Chris again does a perfect job soloing to the song and not to any ego. Nice!
Catch this talented pair as they play almost every big event in the area and around the club scene. I for one love their sound.
