Over the last decade the metal scene in the Philadelphia has gone through some dramatic changes. Both bands and venues alike have risen to prominence then faded away at its sometimes unforgiving whim. This makes it all the more exciting when you catch a band possessed of the musical prowess and stage presence to transcend the local tag altogether.
That band is Kill The Stigmatic.
Frontman Ben Psut has not only mastered the guttural vocal delivery, but manages distinction in a sea of cookie (monster) cutter barkers. Lest you think this an unimpressive task, feel free to Google some of the countless emo/metalcore bands who graced the pages of your favorite metal mag last year and see how many you have already forgotten.
Guitarist Ken Karpinski delivered a consistently solid wall of sound that outpaced many of the twin lead/rhythm teams I have caught recently, while new bassist Frank Strzelecki proved to be an essential element not content to simply fill the shoes of his predecessor. The off kilter delivery of drummer Andrew Karpinski rounded out a sound that is both unique yet instantly accessible to fans of the genre.
In short: See this band!
