Season seven of “The Game,” which started airing on BET earlier this month, is back with Kelly Pitts (Brittany Daniel). Kelly has not been in episodes since 2011 when she and Jason Pitts (Coby Bell) divorced o n the show, which is about the wives and girlfriends of NFL players,
Many fans were eager for Kelly’s return. Fans knew it was eminent last October when Brandy Norwood, who plays Jason’s new wife Chardonnay, posted a picture on Instagram of herself, Coby, and Brittany including the caption, “Look who’s BACK! @thegameBET #season7.”
Hopefully, this casting will add some life to the sitcom, which has gone off course since beloved characters Melanie (Tia Mowry-Hardrict) and Derwin (Pooh Hall) did not return for the 6th season. Two new central characters were added - Keira Whitaker (Lauren Londen), an actress who falls in love with NFL rookie Blue (Jay Ellis) - but the story drags on.
Tasha Mack (Wendy Raquel Robinson) is back with continued drama between her lovers Pookie (Rockmond Dunbar) and Rick Fox, who plays himself with an added twist - she’s pregnant, Malik (Hosea Chanchez) assumes his role as Tasha’s hard partying son. The characters' immaturity has overstayed its welcome and it's time to grow-up.
Kelly’s return is much needed. The chemistry between her and Tasha as her best friend was funny and endearing. Hopefully, we'll continue to see that. The connection between Kelly and Jason is undeniable and Chardonnay will have to go through a few hoops to keep Jason away from ex-wife. This new turn of events should make fans very happy.
“The Game” airs Tuesday nights on BET. Check listings for showtimes.
