I am reviewing 'Free From Me' by new Christian artist, Katelyn McCarter. You can purchase the single on Amazon or on iTunes.
From the moment the song started, I was thinking, “Wow, beautiful voice!” Katelyn has strong vocals; I would compare her to Natalie Grant. The instrumental backing is very epic sounding as well… this song just sounds awesome! I’m going to go out on a limb and say, that I’ll be surprised if Katelyn McCarter is not being played on every CCM station in the country, by the end of 2013. Her vocals are obviously the best part about the song while the song is great… her vocals definitely make the song. She is very much like Natalie Grant in that her vocal style is "matter of fact" meaning every word she sings... she doesn't just believe it, she knows it to be true! She has a conviction and faith in her voice that makes the devil cry like a little girl!
The song has all the elements of a great Contemporary Christian song; it’s one of those songs that if a big name artist were singing it… you would hear it on the radio all day, every day. The only reason you’re not hearing it yet, is because nobody knows her name… yet! Yes, it is that good. The production is top notch as is the performance of the instrumentals. I don’t need to say any more on the vocals, you know I’m very impressed there! I don’t get to say this combination of things about many songs that I review: Because most indie artists can’t afford a production like this and the ones that can, don’t have this level of talent. This song is ready to be a radio hit, and who knows… maybe it will be; if it isn’t, just let me say that it is not because of the artist lacking talent or anything else! Katelyn McCarter has what it takes to be truly great, and I for one cannot wait to hear the full album when it is released.
I’m giving this single 5 stars, because Katelyn gave me no reasons to complain! Perhaps I should complain about that and mark her down a star… Nah, I won’t do that. If you want to spend 99 cents on a song from an artist who might be a big hit one day… spend it on this single, because Katelyn McCarter will be a big hit and probably really soon! So, impress your friends… buy the single and tell them what a great discovery you’ve made.
Remember that name, Katelyn McCarter (you may not be able to spell it, but you’ll remember it, after you hear her sing).
