Kat Von D Lock-It Tattoo Foundation (Photos)

So, I have already been impressed with MAC Full Coverage Foundation. That foundation satisfied anyone who was looking for a beautiful opaque finish that lasted for hours. But after purchasing the new Kat Von D Lock-It Tattoo Foundation, I think this foundation has not only met MAC's match but in my opinion, has passed them. Never once in my life have I came across a foundation this opaqued in my life. I am serious. This foundation is super pigmented and not for the faint of heart. There are a variety of color shades, but after watching and reading reviews, some of the shades could be a little too red or yellow tone, so bare that in mind when choosing your shade. My shade is Deep 70, which is deep complexion with a beige undertone. I paid $34 for it at Sephora online and it took 2 days total to receive it. Now, you are probably thinking that $34 is a little on the expensive side, but I will explain how this bottle will go a long way. Just keep reading.

The packaging is outstanding! The size of this foundation is 1.0 fl oz. It comes in a beige box with black lace and accents. The foundation itself sits in a plastic, but almost glass like bottle that is clear on the outside so you can see the color of the foundation with black lettering on it. The top of the foundation has a sliver pump, which is convenient for users like me because it controls the amount of product that it dispenses out. I cannot tell you how many times I have came across foundations that was in a bottle but had no pump attached. Yes, you could buy a pump with some foundations, but I just prefer if the company would provide one anyway. You can really tell that Kat Von D and Sephora really put in a lot of work on this foundation. And it is very much appreciated.

I did not detect a smell to the foundation, which is a plus for users who hate the stand of fragrance in products. The consistency of this foundation is a mousse-like texture and very thick. Once you pump it on the back of your hand or canvas, it is not going anywhere. Take my word for it when I say that a little goes a long way. 2 pumps of this stuff will get your entire face and neck. Anymore than that and you will look cakey. It is very easy to spread and blend. No problems there. You can apply this foundation with your fingers, a sponge or a foundation brush. I chose my ELF Studio powder brush.

It sets very quickly and you should not, I repeat, you should not need to apply concealer. You can if you want, but I do not see why you should. It covers scars, marks and redness totally. I have a tattoo and it even covered that. It has a semi matte finish. It is not a dewy finish and it is not a matte finish. It is right in between those. As the packaging box says, "create the perfect canvas", Kat Von D was not joking. That is the best way to describe the coverage after applying this foundation.

The first time I applied this foundation, I did not use a powder because it claims that it is transfer resistant and has a 24 hour wear time. I can tell you now if you have very oily skin, you will need a setting powder of some kind. I found that out the hard way unfortunately. Even though I had the coverage, I was so shiny and I was using blotting sheets continuously. The second time I wore it out, I used MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural in Deep Dark and it yielded much better results. This time, throughout the day, I was only blotting my t-zone area and it was not a big deal. I have only wore this foundation at the most 8 to 9 hours and the coverage stays throughout the day. Though it claims to be transfer-resistant, I had a little transfer. But nothing to really worry about. This is now my holy grail foundation! If you are careful with this foundation, you will be completely satisfied with the results!

Pros:

  • Full coverage
  • Long lasting
  • Easy to apply
  • Great consistency

Cons:

  • It does transfer a little bit
  • The price
  • Oily skin types would need a setting powder or setting spray

Rating: 9.8/10
