In the cool of a September night after the work week has ended Karaoke kicks in at the Uno Mas Bar & Grill in Concho, Arizona. The name Karaoke has its roots in Japanese as the word means kara, “without,” and oke after “orchestra.” Along with the Karaoke facilitator, Bray Entertainment, David, Shellie, Collin, Sean, Sam, Claire, Pete, and others crooned to songs like, “I can’t Make You Love Me,” “That’s Life,” “I’ll Be There,” and David kept us on the edge of our leather bar stools with his rendition of, “I’m Just a Gigolo.”
In a town that lights up with the Big Dipper and Orion’s Belt, when the moon is on her respite, performer’s show up where “everybody knows your name,” and in the small town tradition cheer each other on. Country Western songs and the best songs of Frank Sinatra were well done. The crooners seem to be aware of microphone technique and in true Karaoke support the lyrics are on the screen which is a real confidence booster.
Concho, Arizona has two bar type restaurants available to the town. Uno Mas is smart to provide this feature as people get to entertain each other at this monthly soiree. They also look forward to going to Karaoke every month as they probably once did to high school dances. The place is clean and the staff is on a first name basis.
As Collin sings Sinatra’s songs…”You’re riding high in April, knocked down in May…” and David asks “Won’t some sweet mama take a chance on me…” the lead of the show is Uno Mas who has provided a win-win for the local singers and their customer base I believe will grow as a result.
