Karaoke Tuesday nights
July 2005 – Seattle’s Roosevelt neighborhood saw the original Scarlet Tree Restaurant burned and gutted in a fire. It had been a popular local breakfast institution and evening music venue hosting a variety of blues, jazz, rock, and pop bands.
December 2009 – The Scarlet Tree reestablishes its roots and reopens just 2 blocks away from the old digs…and Thankfully so! On a corner lot of NE 65thand 8thNE, the new venue boasts more window space, and though having about the same square footage as the old place it feels MUCH more open and bigger, especially with the upstairs dining area that overlooks the bar & stage below. Quite a contrast to the former darker, dingier-yet-comfortable old self, the new Tree is updated, colorful, and decidedly classier – without losing that familiar and friendly feel!
Much of this is definitely translated through a friendly and helpful staff, and also found in the karaoke show on Tuesday evenings hosted by Josh Baron of Absolute Karaoke. Josh and his KJ partners host at 17 locations in Seattle and surrounding areas. Their website features a comprehensive Song Database from which you will eventually be able to actually click on and sign up for songs from your PC or mobile device!
Tuesday evenings start with Trivia Night at 7pm, followed by Josh’s show. The pre-karaoke crowd sees wide age dispersion (20s to 50+), after which there seemed to be predominantly 20-30 somethings, with smatterings of 40s and older. The large and ever expanding digital song database helps cater to a variety of genres and styles of songs sung and requested. They boast a formidable sound set up, with strategically placed speakers so that both singers and audience are treated to a good balance and quality of monitoring and listening.
Josh is the consummate host with a jovial disposition and decent voice; he effectively engages with the audience, keeps the rotation on track and singers sounding awesome on the stage. And of course, the bar is fully stocked with magic libations to help stave off any hints of stage fright, or provide that extra push to try a new song.
All in all, The Scarlet Tree has successfully risen from the ashes, and provides all the essential ingredients to get your song on!
