Sure, this song’s lyric, about holding on and never letting go, could speak to a desire to make a relationship last. However, just the sound of Bieber’s voice reveals a lover’s embrace. He begins the song, over a sparse groove, groaning and moaning to the computer-esque keyboard bleeps of the accompaniment.
Oddly, Bieber throws in a line where he wonders if this girl will run from his arm like a wristwatch. It makes you wonder, however, if anybody in Bieber’s age group even owns a wristwatch, let alone wears one. It’s reminiscent of Maroon 5’s “Payphone” hit from a while back. The girls may have been singing along, falling under Adam Levine’s spell, while all the while wondering, ‘What the heck is this payphone device he’s singing about?’
With a sexed-up song like “Hold Tight,” Justin has at least given the Belieber moms something to get excited about while they’re accompanying their daughters at his scream fest concerts.
