When one buys a new smart device from Apple, a 1 m (approximately 40 inches) lightning cable comes standard in the box. Moreover, as a matter of convenience, most users will need at least one more cord for syncing and charging.

If the aforementioned is purchased from Apple, then an identical copy will cost $19. Alternatively, Just Mobile’s AluCable Flat too runs $19; yet, it is anything but the “same, old thing.”

The AluCable Flat is slightly longer then Apple’s at 1.2 m (4 feet) in length and like its name is impressively flat (~2 mm in thickness). Moreover, this cable has covered both ends in colored aluminum for a fashionable twist and is available in the following three options:

• Grey aluminum ends with a black cable
• Gold aluminum ends with a white cable (unit reviewed)
• Black aluminum ends with a blue cable

The Just Mobile’s product results in a noticeably more attractive lightning cable. Of note, the aluminum-clad ends are slightly thicker than Apple’s default faire and subsequently this author was unable to plug the lightning end into the small opening in his iPhone case. Nonetheless, this issue will affect only a small number of those with a similar case, while most users will enjoy AluCable Flat’s novel thickness and appearance.
