Then you'll be one of the lucky fans who'll enjoy Julia Roberts as she takes on Meryl Streep in the soon to be released film, "August: Osage County".
It's a dark movie with some comedy and even sweet moments throughout the film. Based on the stage play, "August: Osage County's" story revolves around three sisters portrayed by acclaimed Oscar winner, Julia Roberts, also actresses Julianne Nicholson and Juliette Lewis. They reunite at their childhood home in Oklahoma where their father recently committed suicide. Their mom played by esteemed actress and multi Oscar winner, Meryl Streep,
whom, is Violet Weston. A bitter pill-popping drug addict with cancer, whose ugly tongue lashings slowly tear's her family apart.
Violet, not only manipulates but terrorizes her three daughters along with other kin folk gathered in her deteriorating Oklahoma estate for the funeral dinner following the burial of her overly tolerant, lush, drunkard poet husband played by Sam Shepard, who's superb cameo appearance is at the beginning. The price of admission for this movie comes at a dramatic dinner scene when older daughter Barbara played by Julia Roberts is taking a bottle of pills from her drugged out mom,Violet, Meryl Streep's resisting hand.
By lunging at Meryl Streep and tackling her to the floor while trying to taking bottle of pills from her hand. Leading to a few seconds of rolling around on the floor. Julia Roberts admitted at the movie's premiere in downtown L.A., that she didn't look forward to doing the scene. After all it meant having to beat on a senior citizen. But admitted that saw the dream of a life time with Meryl Streep, who was a worthy opponent. Who wasn't going down with out some scratches and some heels in a soon to be black and blue thighs.
Even though Julia Roberts tackled Meryl Streep in the scene, without using a stunt double, and Julia does leap across the table and took Meryl right to the floor. Meryl Streep realized, that Julia didn't need a stunt double because she's really rough and tough. And it didn't stop there, in another scene, Julia Roberts smacks her pot-smoking daughter, young actress, so sweet...yet nervous Abigail Breslin across the face.
But when the dusts settles, Meryl Streep rules as the mother of all time, as a dysfunctional screen moms in the long awaited screen adaptation of the Pulitzer-winning play “August: Osage County,” which had its successful world premiere Monday night at the Toronto International Film Festival .
