This past weekend, the family and I hiked out to Malta, Illinois, to go to Jonomac Orchard to go apple picking. I would definitely recommend getting there early as they open as parking does fill up quickly. They have such a beautiful space with a fun corn maze to get lost in and with a great family friendly area. We opted for lunch there although many other families brought their own picnic lunch and sprawled out on the grass. We then did the pick-u bags (four half peck bags) where we were able to pick from four different apples. The kids loved the experience of picking apples off the trees, and next time, we will have to go to the apple launcher.
My 4.5 year old loved the family friendly play area which was well worth the $4 wristband (although each child needed a parent to accompany them which is another $6 wristband) and kids under 2 get in for free. The play area is free on weekdays but you pay on weekends. The wristbands also come with a free apple token which we used for the apple train. My daughter also went gaga over the pony rides.
They have a great store with some delicious honey, jams, pies, apple cider, and of course - their famous apple donuts which are the best apple donuts that I have ever had. They are best warm and fresh and quickly devoured! I also picked up 1/4 peck of honeycrisp apples and wish that I picked up more now. Overall, a lovely family outing
