John Digweed is in rarified air when it comes to Electronic Dance Music. Not only is he one of the most well respected DJs in the world, but he is also considered a pioneer for house music and it's rapid growth in popularity worldwide. This past Saturday night the legendary Digweed returned to one of his favorite clubs in the world to headline a special extended set New Year's Eve party. The Avalon in downtown Hollywood and Digweed have a special bond spanning several years as Saturday marked his fourth time headlining an annual New Year’s Eve tradition at the club. Having released a live album (Buy) this past June with an entire disc recorded at Avalon, the club is firmly cemented as a regular stop on Digweed’s worldwide tours. Combining the brilliant house and techno sounds of Digweed with the state of the art production provided by Avalon, New Year’s Eve was an incredible event last Saturday.
Stepping to the decks after a great opening set by Kazall, Digweed took over control a few minutes before midnight to ring in 2012. The capacity crowd at Avalon filled the air with chants and as the countdown began the club turned into one massive party. The clock visuals covered every screen inside the historic club and as midnight came the entire club became fixated on one thing: John Digweed
Every attendee enjoyed the first few hours of 2012 as Digweed played brilliant progressive and tech-house songs creating an unmatched vibe inside the Avalon. Long-build ups and dark melodies matched the visuals and pulsing lights as the clubbers and go-go dancers grooved to the tunes. It was clear every person in attendance was passionate about the music, creating a unique experience that could have only been found inside the Avalon Saturday night. It was the perfect way to begin 2012 which promises to be bigger and better, for both John Digweed and the Avalon – one of the best partnerships in all of EDM.
