London R&B/ Pop singer-songwriter Jessie J is back with new album ALIVE released on September 23rd, 2013, exclusively on iTunes and Amazon UK. The album features collaborations with the likes of Becky G, Brandy Norwood, Big Sean and Dizzee Rascal. This album is much more lively and upbeat with many more pop-laden beats and simple guitar chords. She's come along way from her first album, Who You Are, with an even more powerful and daring voice. Though we would most prefer to hear Jessie scale down the traditional radio-ready pop tunes and give a more intimate sound into her true vocal ability, ALIVE definitely shows a more mature and honest side of her.
After graduating from the BRIT School in 2006, along with singers Adele and Leona Lewis, Jessie J first broke into the industry pinning hits for Chris Brown and Miley Cyrus's chart topping hit, "Party In The U.S.A." In 2012 she released her first solo album entitled, Who You Are. With chart-topping hits such as Domino, Do it Like a Dude, and LaserLight she took the UK charts by storm, selling nearly 3 million albums worldwide. Her new album doesn't seem to have many chart-smashing hits as her last, with the exception of Conquer the World, Wild and It's My Party.
Here in the US, we tend to appreciate singers (in the same talent bracket as Jessie J) who know their vocal abilities and can stay within their respective lanes. With her powerful and soulful vocals, you would intend on hearing a more passionate, neo-soul, R&B inspired album from her. We would also appreciate less synthesizers and more live instrumentation from the overall sound of Alive, but that surely doesn't take away from those piercing, soprano notes that cut through the innocent ears of her listeners. Most fans will herald this album as a noted gradual step-up from her last, but we will stay tuned to her american album to drop sometime in 2014, rumored to be produced by Pharrell Williams.
