Producer and director Clint Eastwood’s JERSEY BOYS is the best film musical since can’t remember when. Those who were around when Franki Valli and the Four Seasons were the hottest group on the charts have more than a trip down memory lane to look forward to with this amazing adaptation of the 2005 Broadway hit. Eastwood’s amazing visuals in combination with the excellent screenplay adaptation by the authors of the original book, Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice, are a joy ride back into the late ‘50s / early ‘60s. From Jersey street corners and kitchen tables to neighborhood cocktail lounges with simple platforms and spotlights to the recording studio where Bob Crewe (played by Mike Doyle) is surrounded by sound proof tiles and reels of recording tape, or the set of the Ed Sullivan Show where Franki Valli and The Four Seasons capture the heart of America – the mood and ambience of the time, the place and the bygone world is never compromised but lifted to astounding heights.
Superb performances all around from the quartet: Vincent Piazza as Tommy DeVito, Erich Bergen as Bob Gaudio, John Lloyd Young as Franki Valli, and Michael Lomenda as Nick Massi. Renée Marino is a knock-out as Valli’s wife, Mary and Christopher Walken is the perfect choice for Mafia boss, Gyp DeCarlo. The story covers a period of thirty years, culminating with the group’s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990. Time and struggle takes its visual toll on the hot young men who rose to the top with such wicked hits as Big Girls Don't Cry, Can't Take My Eyes Off You, Dawn (Go Away), December 1963, Rag Doll, and Sherry. Among the many nominations and awards that will go to this film – watch Jersey Boys take the Oscars for Best Costumes, Best Makeup and Hairstyling.
