Talking the talk and walking the walk is the lifestyle of Jenise La Vonne. In an interview with Ms. La Vonne, she speaks about her upbringing, challenges and maturing musically. The debut single "Do What Jesus Says" conveys the deep feelings of Jenise's heart.
Raised up in the church, Jenise La Vonne grew up as most "Preacher's kids". Church, church and more church. Her Father pastored while her Mom evangelised. Before Jenise could talk good, she was singing. As she became older she wrote songs. Amazing that at a young age, she developed a longing to create musically. Her parents noticed her passion and enrolled her in vocal lessons. Soon thereafter, Jenise La Vonne desired to go into the studio.
As time would have it, Jenise put together a three song demo titled "The Call". Locally, she was being recognized, but had yet gained success outside of her immediate surroundings. What seemed to be promising became daunting. Jenise questioned whether this was something she should continue to pursue. Contemplating her musical future, she contacted Karl Reid of the famed contemporary male Gospel group, Commissioned, through Facebook. Through this connection, Mr. Reid advised Jenise to pray and seek God for direction. After doing so, she felt the pull of God to continue ministering in song.
Growing up is not necessarily only based upon aging, but is also allowing one's self to mature in areas that would bring forth growth that age has nothing to do with. Seeking God and making some critical changes in production, lyrical content and overall presence, Jenise was ready to release a new project. "Do What Jesus Says" is her debut single from her forthcoming project due out later this year.
All around, Jenise's transformation and growth articulated into a great foundation to begin anew. On her project you'll find an array of styles. Jenise's decision to experiment and stretch herself musically brought together the various songs. While one song could be interpreted using one style another song may have needed to be expressed in a different style. Thus, "Do What Jesus Says" has an acoustic feel. A song that provokes inward exploration and confirms direction. Reflecting and redirecting has been apart of Jenise La Vonne's journey in which she sings about and excitedly looks forward to the world knowing who she is.
