Brian Yuzna's ‘Bride of Re-Animator’

‘Bride of Re-Animator’ is the 1990 film directed by Brian Yuzna. Screenwriters are Brian Yuzna, Rick Fry and Michael Muscal. The sequel to 1985 ‘Re-Animator'.

Based on the novel Herbert West, Re-Animator by H.P. Lovecraft. Starring Jeffrey Combs, Bruce Abbott, David Gale, Claude Earl Jones, Mel Stewart, and Kathleen Kinmont.

Hebert West (Jeffrey Combs) and Dan Cain (Bruce Abbott) find themselves in a South American country. Both acting as field medics during a civil war. Which provides them with an abundance of test subjects.

After nearly being killed, they return to the States. Somehow they get their jobs back at Miskatonic University. West reopens his lab as well.

Their old apt building is conveniently adjacent to a cemetery. West thinks no-one will miss body parts. So he steals them wherever he can. West creates freakish limbs held together by a metal bar shoved down the center. He gets a kick reanimating the jigsaw pieces. He’s like a kid on Christmas.

The only thing that brings him down is Cain. He’s still moping over Megan’s death. When West comes across her heart in the morgue, he gets a twisted idea. After all he’s wanted to take it to the next level. He’ll create a new body for Megan. MU has kept the zombies in a high security ward.

Cursorily gets the best of Dr. Wilbur Graves (Mel Stewart). When he stumbles across some reagent and Dr. Hill’s head (David Gale). He gives it a shot. Hill comes back and puts the whammy on Dr. Graves. He has him sew on bat wings. And if that wasn’t bad enough, Hill regains control of his zombie horde.

West and Cain have the law breathing down their necks. Detective Leslie Chapham’s (Claude Earl Jones) wife was one of zombies. He suspects West and Cain know more than what’s in the reports. While off duty, he angrily confronts West in his lab. West kills him then does it again. The corpse becomes a zombie and escapes.

More trouble arrives later in a mysterious package. They open it and BatHill flaps out. Just before the zombie horde storms in. PseudoMegan is complete but hadn’t arisen. Until BatHill used his psychic powers within her vicinity.

Cain’s new girlfriend Francesca Danelli (Fabiana Udenio) picked the wrong night for a visit. They escape to the lab. Where the girls fight over Cain. After freaking out, Cain comes to his senses and tells PseudoMegan he doesn’t want her anymore.

BatHill and his zombies chase the threesome into an adjacent crypt. This is where West threw his discarded toys. Cain and Danelli manage to escape into the cemetery. But West is trapped inside with BatHill and the undead...

The good: West has more lives than a cat.

The bad: Apparently the perfect woman is a Frankenhooker.

The ugly: The bride falls apart after being rejected. Surely there are more zombies for her to date.
